Graduate students must be either registered or on official leave of absence every term until their degree is awarded.
Graduate students must be either registered (fees paid and enrolled in classes) or on an official leave of absence every term until their degrees are awarded. Students who have completed all degree requirements except filing the thesis or dissertation, and/or taking the final examination (master’s comprehensive or doctoral final oral), may be eligible to pay the filing fee (half the student services fee) instead of registering.
Failure to register or be on official leave of absence for any term (fall, winter, spring) constitutes withdrawal from UCLA.
Students on an official leave of absence do no need to apply for readmission, since the approved leave is for readmission in a specific term.
Students returning to UCLA after an absence of two or more consecutive terms must submit a statement of legal residence (SLR) to the Registrar’s Office, and are assessed registration fees.
