Remote instruction start for winter 2022

Due to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant, winter quarter 2022 will start with remote instruction. See the UCLA COVID-19 resources website for details.

Registrar business hours

Get answers and information from the Registrar’s Office, virtually through Zoom or in person at 1113 Murphy Hall. Virtual and in-person hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., except holidays. No in-person services January 3-28 due to remote instruction start of winter quarter 2022.

New data science engineering minor

Effective winter 2022, a new minor in data science engineering is offered jointly by the Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering departments. The minor exposes students to the entire data science life cycle.

New applied chemical sciences master’s degree

Effective fall 2021, the Chemistry and Biochemistry department offers a self-supporting Master of Applied Chemical Sciences (MACS) degree. It is designed for those planning on a nonacademic career.

New planetary sciences graduate degrees

Effective fall 2021, the Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences department offers MS and PhD degrees in planetary sciences.

CAEM IDP and MA name change

Effective fall 2021, the Conservation of Archeological and Ethnographic Materials interdepartmental program and MA degree are renamed Conservation of Cultural Heritage.

New quantum science master’s degree

Effective fall 2021, the Physics and Astronomy department offers a self-supporting Master of Quantum Science and Technology (MQST) degree.

New social data science minor

Effective fall 2021, the Statistics department offers a new minor in Social Data Science. The minor focuses on using data to address societal issues.

New European Languages and Transcultural Studies department

Effective fall 2021, the departments of French and Francophone Studies, Germanic Languages, and Italian—and the Scandinavian Section—merge to become the department of European Languages and Transcultural Studies (ELTS).

Juneteenth observed as UC holiday

The University of California will observe Juneteenth—a day recognizing and celebrating the end of slavery in the U.S.—as a universitywide holiday. This year UC will observe the holiday on Monday, June 28. See the UC announcement for details.
