Return to Undergraduate Study

After an absence of more than one term, undergraduate students must submit an application to resume their studies at UCLA.

An undergraduate student who has not registered for two or more consecutive regular session terms (summer not included) must submit a Return to Undergraduate Study application to return to UCLA. Upon approval, a nonrefundable fee applies. This application is required to attend a regular session term only (fall, winter, or spring).

UCLA logon ID and password are required to access this application. UCLA logon ID instructions are available on the UCLA Identity and Accounts Manager website.

Students whose last registered term at UCLA was prior to fall 1980 should contact the Registrar’s Office for an alternate application.

Ineligibility

New undergraduate students who cancel registration in their first quarter are not eligible to submit a Return to Undergraduate Study application. New undergraduate students admitted fall quarter 2024 or later, who withdraw or lose student status on or before Friday of week three of their first quarter, are not eligible to submit an application. They must reapply to UCLA using a UC admission application.

EAP and PAL Students

Students participating in the Education Abroad Program (EAP) and PAL for non-UC study abroad are not required to submit a Return to Undergraduate Study application. Upon registration fees payment, EAP students are considered continuing registered UCLA students for all approved terms abroad.

Summer Sessions

A Return to Undergraduate Study application is not required to attend UCLA summer sessions. The Summer Sessions office can supply course enrollment guidance.

Advising Offices

Applicants should consult with the appropriate academic advising office for any conditions that may apply.

To contact a departmental adviser, see the individual department.

Requirements

Statement of Legal Residence

All students submitting a Return to Undergraduate Study application must also complete a Statement of Legal Residence, and upload it with the application.

Official Transcripts

Students who have attended any educational institution, including another University of California campus or UCLA Extension, since their last attendance at UCLA must submit official transcripts from those schools with the application. Students admitted to UCLA prior to fall 1988 who have not been registered at UCLA for the last five years are required to resubmit official transcripts of all work completed outside UCLA.

Action taken on the application is contingent upon receipt and evaluation of these transcripts.

Submission

Applicants are encouraged to submit their application at least six to eight weeks before the priority deadline to maximize their opportunity to enroll during the first pass enrollment period. Applications received after the priority deadline are assessed a late readmission fee and, if applicable, a late registration fee.

Readmission Term Application Opens Application Deadline
Fall Quarter March 1 August 15
Winter Quarter September 1 November 25
Spring Quarter January 1 February 25

Under no circumstances will an application be accepted after Friday of Week 2 of the term for which the student wishes to return.
