Graduate students must be either registered (fees paid and enrolled) or on an official leave of absence every term until their degrees are awarded. As an exception, certain graduate students may be eligible to pay the filing fee.

Students on an official leave of absence do no need to apply for readmission, since the approved leave is for readmission to a specific term.

Students returning to the University after an absence of two or more consecutive terms must submit a Statement of Legal Residence (SLR) to the Registrar’s Office and are assessed registration fees. The SLR is available online.

Failure to register or be on official leave of absence for any term (fall, winter, spring) constitutes withdrawal from UCLA.
